Earth Care provides quality programs customized to meet the individual needs of each school we work with. We are currently working with elementary schools, though we are available to adapt our curriculum to middle and high school groups as well.
Through our program, students gain a deeper understanding of our environment and community.
Program Description: Our Sustainability Education program utilizes the garden as a teaching tool to engage students in hands-on, real-world experiences as well as the classroom to bring lessons about sustainability, environmental stewardship and social justice. This curriculum enriches a school’s science, and social sciences curriculum to examine broader questions of sustainability studying relationship to nature, food and the impact of the food system on the environment. Earth Care Educators also support the development of the garden infrastructure, harvesting and composting as it’s pertinent to each school site.
Aside from working with students during the school year, we also offer summer programs where we partner with organizations like BGC and the School District.
Our Approach: We believe that nurturing curiosity, developing skills to answer questions, a strong sense of self, and the ability to lead our youngest community members is critical to creating a vibrant, healthy and engaged community. We want to create lifelong, practical learning skills. We also believe that the best techniques to make this happen are through integrated, hands-on activities, and inquiry-based education.
